I saw that a movie wass recommended to me.... Maharaja! Without specks I could hardly make out who was starring in it… a bit closer and I see Vijay Sethupathi and I add the film to 'MY LIST'.

Maharaja, is a film for those who are able to understand the pain and gore with just dialogues. It makes your skin crawl if you simply listen to the dialogues (or in your case read the subtitles). I can say this for sure as I watched this with my 16-year-old son and he started forwarding the dialogue because it was making him angry. Can you imagine they don’t show anything, they say it in such a manner that you feel the horror and want to not hear it anymore forget imagining.

Maharaja, is a simple story of a Father who is a Barber, his daughter who is an spiring athlete and a trash bin a.k.a Kuppathotti just until… it’s not that simple anymore.

Watch the movie carefully for the nuances or else you will not understand what is happening NOW or what in here is Flashback.

I hate Anurag Kashyap. NO, seriously I hate him… as a Villain! He is so villainous when he is a villain that I ahte him. I guess Anurag sir has figured ke bhai South chale jaate hai. He is infact producing films in Malayalam too now.

The movie keeps going back and forth and you tend to understand it only in due course of time but when you understand, the story starts getting more and more gripping. I have watched enough films to understand where it was going and I also knew the very last twist. But the beauty in the way the movie is shot, the casting, the acting, the sheer way the story was told is simply a masterpiece to watch.

There is everything packed in the right amount. Emotion, thrill, violence, gore, revenge, avenge, comedy… nothing seems to be out of place. Infact, whoever you think is duping him is actually helping him. Even the worse of the worse stand by him for the crime that was actually committed. For a change the cops here are helpful and with a heart!

But don’t watch it if you can’t take the weight of a film. I went to sleep with the weight of the story and Vijay Sethupathi’s acting skills. And I woke up knowing that yes, here’s another film I love in Tamil.

I don't give stories of films that I really love only because I want others to go watch it and form their own opinion. So, if you love stories that unfold minute by minute then watch this film now. Do not get distracted. Do not leave your seat. And PLEASE watch it in one sitting. I know OTT spoils us to come back again but this film deserves your undivided attention in one go.
