I have two boys, one aged 15 and the other 10, and like me, they love watching good content. The challenge is always finding content that's appropriate for a 10-year-old yet engaging enough for a 15-year-old and a 44-year-old.
Friday Night Plan (FNP) ticks all the boxes for every age group in our home.
The movie doesn't waste any time building the characters. From the first scene, you're immediately immersed with them, and their strengths and weaknesses gradually unfold. It feels like the script was written by someone who has genuinely lived through teenage years and remembers them vividly, while also staying in sync with current teenage trends.
There's enough fun throughout, and the film doesn't preach or tell you what to do. It's simply the story of two boys: Siddharth Menon, played by Babil Khan, and Adi Menon, played by Amrith Jayan.
Each character played their part and did justice to their roles. The story unfolds within a typical 24-48 hour period. Juhi Chawla brilliantly portrays a responsible, overworked, yet doting and alert mother. There was a brief moment when a cop gets involved, and I feared it might turn into another Shaitaan or Fugly, but it doesn't. Let's just say everyone did what was asked of them and did it with ease.
The music by my favorite band, When Chai Met Toast, keeps things light and enjoyable.
Overall, Friday Night Plan is a beautiful film that shows how fun, responsibility, stupidity, and intelligence can all coexist. Each friend complements the others with their strengths.
I often came to Netflix for series, as they usually align with my tastes. However, now I believe their movies are improving as well. Thank you for catering to audiences like me, whose tastes vary depending on who I'm watching with.
And of course, thank you Ritesh and Farhan for your keen eye for great scripts. Special thanks to Vatsal Neelakantan for your perfect script and direction.
